Y4/5 Autumn Term 2018

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome to Year 4 / 5 class as we begin an exciting new autumn term.

Please ensure that all children are in school by 9am promptly in order to start the day on time.  Doors will open at 8.55am and children will need to walk into school independently via the junior entrance.

All children will be walked to the playground door for dismissal by 3.15pm at the end of each school day.

Snacks

Biscuits are 50p per week and toast is available on Tuesdays for 10p. Please send money to school in a clearly labelled envelope via your child.  If you would like to pay this on a termly / half-termly basis please feel free to do so. Children are allowed to bring a bottle of water only into class to access during the day.

Theme

Our theme this term is ‘Time Traveller’.   This will involve learning about periods of time in history following our immersion day on Victorians during the summer term.  Letters have been sent home today with information about our trip to St Fagans to support our learning. I am also hoping to arrange a visit to Daerwynno outdoor centre as part of our science topic ‘Down in the Woods’ after half term.

Literacy

Reading and handwriting will be a focus for us this term and your child will continue to bring a reading book home to share with you which will need to be returned when these are completed unless otherwise informed.  Daily guided reading sessions will also take place in school. I will chat to you about how you can further support your child with reading during our Parents’ Evening meeting.

Numeracy

Our focus for this term is number calculations, standard measures (metric), times tables and problem solving. Please help your child to learn the as many times tables as possible and ensure they can respond to questions in and out of order.

Homework

Homework will be given in the form of a weekly reading book and maths / topic work as appropriate.

P.E.

Our P.E. day is Wednesday.  Children may come to school dressed in sports clothing as part of their uniform.  Swimming starts on Friday 21st September. Please ensure children have a swimming costume, towel and £1 for the locker.

If you have any questions or queries at any time, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you for your continued support
