Class ES – Fitness and fun!

What a super start to the Summer Term and our new topic ‘Fitness and Sportswear Design.’

We kicked off this new project with a super sunny day of fun and fitness. Firstly, we headed to the gym at Merthyr Leisure Centre where Nathan showed us the various fitness machines. We were lucky enough to try some of them out! We learnt about which parts of the body were being worked on each different machine and we discussed healthy diets and the importance of staying hydrated whilst we worked out.

After the gym we enjoyed an hour in the pool, learning that keeping fit and healthy can be fun. We have some marvellous aqua- specialists, showing us their skills in flips, somersaults, handstands, distance swimming, swirling and splashing! After swimming we enjoyed a little treat and popped to McDonalds for lunch. “McDonalds!” I hear you cry, but the message is “All things in moderation.”

After we packed a very large bunch of helium filled balloons in the bus, we continued on our journey to DW Sports. Here we explored the different areas of the shop floor and began to explore the different types of fabrics and designs used in sportswear, the colours and styles and differences between the big brands. We had a splendid day. The children were marvellous, well it is Miskin after all and plenty of photos were taken.

This term we are endeavouring to walk/run 1km around our yard every day. We are aiming to improve our stamina and fitness levels over the term. If the weather really does NOT allow, then we have been learning some guided dance steps which we can do in the class, or hall.
