Welcome back to the Summer Term. I hope you had an enjoyable break.

Our topic this term is “Misty Mountain, Winding River.” This is a Humanities topic and we will be out and about in the local area.

Important points to note:

• Please ensure all clothing is labelled clearly, including PE kits and water bottles. All children need a water bottle that is refilled daily at home.
• I encourage the children to read every day in school and at home. Please ensure reading books are brought to school daily. I endeavour to listen to children read weekly. If your child has a reading book from home this is good. I would like to see it to ensure it is challenging.
• PE will be on Wednesday. The children can wear their kit to school (weather appropriate). They will need a t-shirt, shorts or jogging bottoms and trainers.

• Homework will go out on a Monday and returned by Friday. All homework will be on the Google Classroom website.  
• Fruit money is £1, to be sent to school in an envelope on a Monday, no later please, unless due to absence.
• Dinner money can be paid online. Please ask the office for details if you are unsure how to do this. Alternatively, money can be brought in on Monday in an envelope with your child’s name on. 
• The children will be using Google classroom, Purple Mash, Seesaw and Mathletics websites in the classroom. I have placed videos and activities for them to complete weekly to support their learning. If you need support with these please let me know.

As I take responsibility for teaching Dosbarth Rowan I hope we have a full and exciting time together. As always, if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.

Welcome to Dosbarth Rowan (Year 3 & 4). I hope you have had an enjoyable Christmas break and a Happy New Year!

Our topic this term is ‘The Blue Abyss’. We will be developing the children’s knowledge of habitats, food chains, the oceans, plastic pollution and sea creatures. 

Important points to note:

• Please ensure all clothing is labelled clearly, including PE kits and water bottles. All children need a water bottle that is refilled daily at home.
• The children will need to bring their reading books every day. We will try to change the children’s books at least weekly. Please try to read with your child daily and sign and comment in the reading record. We will not swap the book if it has not been read at least once. We may send home extra sounds and/or words for your child to practice with you.

We will be starting this term with the story of Guto Nyth Bran. We will be developing the children’s knowledge of local geography. The children will have the opportunity to represent the story using their digital skills and will develop their story writing, using Guto Nyth Bran as their inspiration. Literacy and Maths skills will be practised and developed daily.

Autumn Term 2021

Dosbarth Oaks

Welcome to Dosbarth Oaks (Years 5 & 6). We hope you have had an enjoyable Summer holiday. Our topic this first half term will be ‘Warrior Princess’ and we will be developing the children’s knowledge of their Welsh identity and other aspects of Welsh history. On October 6^th we will be visiting Kidwelly Castle, the home of Gwenllian the warrior princess. After half term the topic will be ‘Fallen Fields’ focussing on Remembrance Day and both world wars.

         Some important information:

• Fruit money is £1, to be sent to school in an envelope on a Monday No later please, unless due to absence.
• Dinner money can be paid online. Please ask the office for details if you are unsure how to do this. Alternatively, cash can be brought in on a Monday in an envelope.
• PE will be on a Thursday. PE kit can be worn to school. No jewellery …pupils have to remove own ear studs or cover with plasters. Swimming details to follow as soon as we receive the information.
• Reading books are to be brought to school daily and placed in the ‘Llyfrau Darllen’ box.

   **N.B. that your child will be doing guided reading with the teacher once a week and a record of their progress will be kept in their personal record book, which is kept in school and shared with you in parents’ evening. Their ‘home reader and record book’ will also be monitored either daily if needed, or at least once a week with a support assistant. Any parental comments or questions will be brought to my attention if needed. Please continue to support your child with reading regularly at home and make sure their books are brought to school every day. **

• We will provide equipment, although pupils will be allowed to bring their own equipment in if they prefer, as long as it doesn’t cause any distractions or conflict with other pupils.
• Homework will be placed on the online classroom every Monday, to be completed by 8am on the Friday.
• We have prompt starts to our teaching and learning in the mornings in key stage 2 so please contact the school office or write us a note with any important messages or information.
• In the event of any periods of Covid isolation or future lockdowns, all school work will continue online through Google Classroom and the Mathletics website. Log in details will be sent home.
